About the artist
Lynette Diergaardt (b. 1987) is a Namibian artist who holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Namibia and a Master’s in Textiles as a Fulbright Scholar from Kent State University in the USA. She currently works as a lecturer in Arts Education at the University of Namibia.
Her work delves into Namibian identity through textile production, and she is deeply engaged in the technologies and processes of this medium. Recently, Diergaardt began a collaborative project that explores Namibian identity from multiple perspectives. This ongoing project includes abstract screen prints and textiles, forming the foundation of a larger, evolving body of work.
Diergaardt has participated in several group exhibitions both locally and internationally, alongside holding three solo exhibitions in Namibia. Her first solo exhibition, ‘Remembrance Through Cloth’, was presented at the National Art Gallery of Namibia in 2016. In 2017, Diergaardt exhibited in ‘Being Here‘ at StArt Art Gallery and hosted her solo exhibition ‘Mind to Hand‘ at StArt Art Gallery in 2018. She also participated in the virtual ‘Latitudes Online’ art fair in 2020, organized in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023 she participated in ‘Rising Voices‘ after being awarded an API Artists’ Grant. Most recently, her work featured in the group exhibition ‘Slow Burn’, presented by SMAC Gallery in Stellenbosch and she was a participating artist in Investec Cape Town Art Fair (2025).
